Faculty – Biology

Instructs students in the biological sciences in accordance with College policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • In accordance with SACSCOC accreditation requirements, Biology or a Master’s degree in related disciplines with 18 graduate hours in Biology appropriately.

  • Demonstrates ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.

Experience:

  • Must be knowledgeable, capable of using current technology in the classroom, and able to teach effectively at a community college level.
  • Preferred experience in teaching community college level Biology.
  • Successful teaching experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Instructs students in the biological sciences. Provides learning activities that stimulate student involvement and encourages critical thinking.
  • Demonstrates creativity and innovation in the field, and service in the profession and/or the community.
  • Plans and organizes lesson plans, research and reference materials, syllabi, and other learning aids.
  • Meets deadlines and adheres to policies and procedures for paperwork, records, and documentation.
  • Maintains office hours to assist students.
  • Participates in graduation, general assembly, and other official College functions.
  • Responsible for program development, curriculum development, advising/mentoring students and participating in student retention activities.
  • Serves on college-wide and departmental committees and participates in college activities.
  • Participates in faculty development opportunities.
  • Primarily responsible for teaching a minimum of fifteen (15) credit/contact hours or non-course based-options (NCBO) per semester in the area of Biology.
  • Maintains an established schedule, including evening, weekend, and/or summer assignments, including possible multiple campus locations that may vary by semester.
  • Recruits advises and evaluates students.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Serves as faculty advisor for students.

Salary Range:

Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
