Adult Education & Literacy Student:

The college will remain closed for face to face instruction until July 6.  We will continue to provide virtual classes. Please see the Virtual Class Schedule located under the Academics and Adult Education and Literacy tab on the Texarkana College website.  https://www.texarkanacollege.edu/adult-education/

We are here to answer any questions about how to access the classes or to complete work in Essential Education or Burlington English.  It is important that you remain an active student during this time.  Please see the information below to assist in that process.

Using Zoom – Zoom.us

Zoom.us video conferenceThe classes will be presented in the online meeting program – Zoom. If you are using a zoom computer to access the class, you only need to click on the link for the class on the virtual class schedule to access the class. If a link is not provided on the schedule, please contact the instructor by email to get the link. If you are accessing the class using your cell phone, you must download the Zoom Application to your cell phone.

ESL Students

ESL students must only log-in to Burlington English to access the virtual classroom. Click on the Virtual Classroom Calendar to find the link to the classroom.

In order to keep in touch with you during this time, Mr. Owney would like to invite you to join the Facebook group.

The directions are below.

  1. Join Facebook
  2. Search for Bill Owney or use this link: https://www.facebook.com/bill.owney.3
  3. Send me a friend request (they can unfriend me later if they do not want me in their newsfeed)
  4. I will then send them an invitation to join the group, Practica, Practica, Practica
  5. Accept the invitation
  6. Information and postings from me and from other students should appear in their newsfeed This does not always work, so they should also check groups on Facebook from time to time.

Attendance Procedures for Zoom

In order to be counted present in your virtual class, you will need to do the following:

  1. Type your first and last name in the chat when you enter the classroom
  2. Type “bye” when you exit the classroom.

Your instructor is going to help you learn the Zoom classroom platform. Please don’t let this new technology keep you from joining the class. The first class session will be used to help you get comfortable with the technology. We are learning too, and we are here to help you!

Packet Pick-up

Friday, March 27, 4:30-6 p.m. or Monday, March 30, 7:30-9 a.m.

Instructors have prepared paper materials for you to use in your online classes and/or to work on if you cannot access the virtual classroom. Using social distancing protocol, you can pick up the packets at Texarkana College Physical Sciences Building. A table will be set up at the front door and packets will be labeled by class and instructor. Please review the class schedule before picking up your packet.

Essential Education and Burlington English Online Courses

If you have on line access, we encourage you to continue to work in the online programs. If you need your account re-activated or need assistance with your log-in and/or password, please contact Lisa Jones at 903 823 3460 or lisa.jones@texarkanacollege.edu or Sacoyle Baker at 903 823 3462 or sacoyle.baker@texarkanacollege.edu for assistance.

Scheduling and Taking GED Exams

At this time, the Texarkana College Testing Center is closed, as are most testing centers across the state. Once the testing center re-opens, you will be able to schedule and take exams. If you had scheduled a test during this closure, you should have received an email from Pearson Vue and your fees should have been refunded.
I know many of you had scheduled exams or were about to schedule exams. Please keep on working on the material so that you are ready to take the exam when the testing center re-opens. We are so proud of all your hard work this year, and we are here to help you in any way possible.

Teacher and Staff Contact Information

Besides the Zoom classroom, email will be your main line of communication with instructors and staff. The attached schedule has the instructor’s email, but I have also provided the instructor and staff emails below. Since we are working from home, most of us do not have access to the office phone. You can leave a message that will be sent to the person’s email, so please feel free to do that too.
