Texarkana College Announces New Flight Training Program at Texarkana Regional Airport

At its December meeting today, the Texarkana College Board of Trustees received a report from Vice President of Instruction Dr. Dixon Boyles announcing the launch of a new flight training program offered through the college’s Career and Technical Training Division. The non-credit course is set to begin in early Spring 2026 at Texarkana Regional Airport. The training program is open to students from the Texarkana College service area as well as those from outside the region.

The 16-week program is designed to respond to the growing demand for skilled pilots, a need driven by ongoing shortages in the aviation industry. Students will receive comprehensive instruction in essential flight skills, including pre-flight inspections, basic and advanced maneuvers, navigation, emergency procedures, night flying, and radio communication. The curriculum prepares graduates for both the FAA written and practical exams, culminating in a certificate of completion from Texarkana College and a Private Pilot license from the Federal Aviation Administration.

“Our new flight training program, alongside our Aviation Mechanics program, is designed to help students quickly enter the workforce with the knowledge and skills required to succeed,” said Dr. Boyles. “By housing these programs at the Texarkana Regional Airport, we’re simulating real-world environments and maximizing hands-on learning time for our students. This is a direct response to the needs of our region and the aviation industry at large.”

Basic course tuition is set at a lower-than-average cost at approximately $10,000. Students will complete a minimum of 40 hours of flight time which meets the FAA’s Part 61 minimum flight time requirements and includes both instructor-led and solo flights as part of the curriculum.

In other business, Dr. Boyles asked Trustees to consider approval for TC to seek approval to offer an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Flight, effective fall 2026.

Enrollment is now open for the non-credit course offered through the Career and Technical Training Division. For more information or to reserve a spot in the upcoming cohort, contact Kadie Allen at 903-823-3015 or kadie.allen@texarkanacollege.edu.
