Student Spotlight: Zachary Mitchell

Zach looks down at his tough hands and smiles.

“At least they aren’t soft,” he says.

Zach always knew he loved working on heating and air units, even at the young age of 14 when he began shadowing a family friend.

This love led him to a dream of owning his own company working on commercial and residential properties. Zach decided to come to Texarkana College’s HVAC program as the first step in reaching that dream.

“TC hands you as much responsibility as you want to take on,” Zach said.

He fell right in step with the hands-on approach Texarkana College uses in its workforce programs. Zach had always planned to jump right into the workforce after he graduated from high school. While excelling in TC’s HVAC program, Zach started his own business at the age of 18.

His typical day involves school from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and then going to work at his business. He is one of the youngest people in Arkansas to have a contractor’s license.

Zach will graduate with his HVAC certificate in the spring. He is living his dream and loving the hard work.
