Barry Family Nursing Career Development Scholarship Program

About the Scholarship:

  • Recipients will sign contract with CSM for future employment.
    • ADN students will receive funding for all 4 semesters of nursing school and sign a 2-year contract to work at CSM.
    • VN and Transition students will receive funding for 3 semesters of nursing school and sign a 1-year contract to work at CSM.
  • Scholarship funds will be applied directly to the recipient’s Texarkana College Student Account.
  • If a student fails a class or withdraws, they will not be eligible for future funds.

 

Applicants for this scholarship must submit the following:

  • Completed application; do not leave blank spaces or omit information.
  • Evidence of all other financial aid received: Pell grant, GI bill, Hazelwood, scholarships, etc.
  • Letters of recommendation from THREE individuals who can speak to the applicant’s character, work ethic, and ability. At least 1 letter of recommendation must come from faculty who has taught you, preferably in college. Letters should include contact information for the person writing the recommendation.
  • An essay describing the reasons you will be a positive impact on the profession of nursing and the health and wellbeing of others. Must be double spaced; limited to 2 pages.

 

Vocational Nursing (VN) Students

  • This program admits students in spring and fall and has two application periods.
  • Apply for the scholarship during the application cycle that coincides with submission of application to the program.
  • The electronic application is on the Texarkana College scholarship webpage.
  • Applications are accepted from January 1st – April 15th and July 1st – October 1st.
  • One of the letters of recommendation should come from a faculty member.
  • Awardees will receive $1,000 in each semester of the program; $3,000 total funds.

 

Associate Degree Nursing (ADN/RN) Students

  • Apply in the spring before starting their first semester of nursing school.
  • The electronic application will be on Texarkana College’s scholarship webpage.
  • Applications are accepted from January 1st– April 15th.
  • Awardees will receive $1,500 in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th semester of the program; $6,000 total funds.

 

VN to AND (RN) Transition Students

  • Apply in the spring before starting their first semester of nursing school.
  • The electronic application will be on Texarkana College’s scholarship webpage.
  • Applications are accepted from July 1st – October 1st.
  • Awardees will receive $1,500 in each semester of the program; $4,500 total funds.

 

Applicants must be pursuing a degree or certificate in one of the following programs:

  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN/RN) Program
  • Vocational Nursing (VN) Program
  • VN to ADN Transition Program

 

The number of scholarships awarded will be limited due to funding. Priority will be given to applicants who:

  1. Are already enrolled in a program listed above.
  2. Completed all prerequisite courses for a program.
  3. Hold a 3.0 or greater GPA.

Prior to the release of funds:

  1. Texarkana College will verify the student has been accepted to the program, has met all admission requirements, and is in good standing with the college and nursing program.
  2. A signed agreement stating the recipient will work for CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System for a period of 1 to 2 years after graduation, depending on the scholarship awarded.
    • Students in the ADN program will sign a 2 year agreement.
    • Students in the VN and VN to ADN Transition programs will sign a 1 year agreement.

 

Receiving this scholarship does not guarantee employment at any CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System facility.
