New Private Pilot Training Program Highlighted at Texarkana College’s Board Meeting
Texarkana, TX, – At the, February 2, 2026, meeting of the Texarkana College Board of Trustees, Brandon Washington, Vice President of Campus Operations and Dean of Workforce, presented an update on Texarkana College’s new Aviation Flight Training Program, which prepares students to earn an FAA-approved Private Pilot License.
“Through hands-on instruction and expert faculty, we are building a strong foundation for pilot certification and opening the door to future aviation opportunities right here in Texarkana,” Washington said. “This program represents an exciting advancement for our region and for those aspiring to become private pilots.”
Offered as a non-credit Career & Technical Training program, the Aviation Flight Training Program combines face-to-face classroom instruction, simulator sessions, and in-air flight training with certified instructors. Students develop essential skills in aircraft operation, navigation, weather analysis, radio communication, and aviation safety.
Students who complete the program and meet all Federal Aviation Administration requirements earn a Certificate of Completion from Texarkana College and a Private Pilot License issued by the FAA.
The program is structured as a full-time, one-semester (16-week) course with daytime classes and scheduled flight training blocks. While the FAA requires a minimum of 40 flight hours for private pilot certification, most students complete between 60 and 75 hours to ensure readiness for the FAA checkride. All flight instruction takes place at the Texarkana College Aviation Hangar at the Texarkana Regional Airport, offering students access to professional facilities and real-world training environments. Tuition is student-funded and not currently eligible for federal financial aid or scholarships.
The program addresses growing workforce demand in aviation by providing an accessible pathway for students to enter this high-demand field close to home.
