About the Private Pilot License Program

Texarkana College’s Aviation Flight Training Program prepares students for an FAA Private Pilot License. Training includes classroom instruction, simulator sessions, and hands-on flight hours with certified instructors. Students learn aircraft operation, navigation, weather analysis, radio communication, and safety procedures required for successful pilot certification.

After successful completion of the program and FAA requirements, students can earn:

  • A Certificate of Completion from Texarkana College
  • A Private Pilot License from the Federal Aviation Administration

Admission Requirements

  • FAA Medical Certificate (typically 2nd Class)
  • Background check authorization
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Instructor discretion waiver
  • Create an account in IACRA
  • Apply for FAA Student Pilot Certificate
  • Review FAA requirements and student pilot responsibilities
  1. Complete the TC admissions application
  2. Meet with an advisor
  3. Register for aviation courses
  4. Pay tuition or set up a payment arrangement
  • Attend mandatory orientation before training begins

Additional Program Information

  • 40 total flight hours
  • 20 hours instruction with a Certified Flight Instructor
  • 10 hours solo flight, including cross-country experience

Most students complete between 60 and 75 hours before checkride.
