Are you wanting to get fit and healthy? Are you lacking the motivation and accountability to change your habits? The Get Fit Club is here to help.

The Get Fit Club (GFC) is the newest club on campus and is Texarkana College’s only fitness club. To join, you must be a full-time student, faculty, or staff.

The GFC was founded by TC student Misty Jones in March. Jones is also president of the club. “The club’s faculty sponsor, Laronda Bailey, inspired me to create this type of club. She is always running on the TC trail or being active in some way.”

Jones said, “Having a club like this holds me accountable. Not only do I need to be at every session for myself, but I also need to be there to support my fellow members. And when I am ready to quit on myself, I just remember that someone else is counting on me and I push myself to keep going.”

Chrystal Sloan, a Behavioral Science major, is the club’s vice president. Victoria Marshall, a Journalism major, is the club’s secretary.

“I feel like more people would be active and lead a healthier lifestyle, if they had support from their peers,” Jones said.

Members of the GFC are not only supported by their peers. The club also has the benefit of being trained by certified personal trainer and TC alumnus KJ Jackson.

Jackson provides the club with a boot-camp style workout on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for 4 weeks. He also sends out weekly motivational emails with helpful tips and nutritional information. Jackson also addresses any individual questions or concerns of the GFC members. Membership dues are $30 for each 4-week session.

If you are unable to make the GFC training sessions, you can still join. The club offers a second membership option.

With this option, members will get nutrition tips and motivation from Jackson, support from other GFC members, videos of workout sessions, and invites to any function outside of Texarkana College. The cost for this option is $15 per month.

If you are interested in joining the Get Fit Club, email Misty Jones, club president at m.jones8378@texarkanacollege.edu or contact Faculty Sponsor, Laronda Bailey at laronda.bailey@texarkanacollege.edu.
