Texas Mutual Insurance Company, the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance, has awarded a $100,000 grant to Texarkana College to continue funding the college’s workplace safety training program. The award marks the 10th consecutive year of support and brings Texas Mutual’s total investment in the program to $1 million over the past decade.

The milestone reflects a long-standing partnership focused on strengthening workplace safety and workforce readiness throughout the Texarkana region. Through this funding, Texarkana College provides safety and health training for area employers, employees and members of the public, programs designed to reduce workplace risk and equip workers with essential certifications.

During remarks at today’s announcement, Texarkana College President Dr. Jason Smith expressed appreciation for the sustained investment.
“We are grateful for the generous commitment Texas Mutual has shown to Texarkana College for the past 10 years,” Smith said. “This funding supports important safety training that impacts hundreds of employees across our region and helps ensure they return home safely at the end of each workday.”

Jeremy Hansen, Manager of Regional Safety for Texas Mutual Insurance Company and the event’s featured speaker, said prevention remains at the heart of the company’s mission.

“Supporting programs that help to prevent workplace accidents and injuries is central to what we do,” Hansen said.

Over the past decade, the grant has allowed the college to significantly expand its safety training offerings across the region. Thomas Holt, Executive Director of Workforce Training at Texarkana College, said the partnership continues to make a measurable difference in the region’s workforce.

“Today, Texarkana College delivers forklift certification training, OSHA instruction, HAZWOPER courses, hazardous materials endorsement preparation in conjunction with commercial driver’s license training, and an 80-hour Emergency Medical Responder program that supports first responders and volunteer firefighters,” said Holt. “We are working together to build a stronger and safer workforce for the Texarkana region.”

The college now also offers a comprehensive monthly forklift certification course covering Class I, IV and V trucks, allowing hundreds of community members to earn certification through the National Safety Council and meet employer safety standards.

Texas Mutual leaders say safety education grants are one way the company continues delivering on its commitment to building a stronger, safer Texas, investing in prevention today to protect workers tomorrow.
