Established by Congress in 1986, National TRIO Day highlights the importance of educational access, academic persistence, and college opportunity. The Federal TRIO Programs, created under the Higher Education Act, are designed to remove barriers to postsecondary education and promote student success.
“TRIO students are scholars, problem-solvers, community builders, and current and future leaders,” said Dr. Tonja Mackey, Dean of Library and Learning Support. “National TRIO Day allows us to celebrate their accomplishments and reaffirm our commitment to providing the support and resources students need to achieve their academic and career goals.”
Texarkana College serves 1,861 students annually through its Educational Opportunity Center, Student Support Services, and Talent Search programs. These TRIO programs provide academic guidance, tutoring, advising, mentoring, college readiness services, financial aid support, and career development. Nationally, TRIO serves more than 800,000 individuals each year, including middle school, high school, and college students, adult learners, veterans, and graduate scholars.
