Texarkana College Launches New Plumbing Program to Meet Growing Workforce Demand

Texarkana College is expanding its workforce education programs with the launch of a new Plumbing Technology Program beginning in Fall 2025. The program is designed to prepare students for immediate entry into the skilled trades industry—an essential and growing sector across the region and state.

The need for qualified plumbers is at an all-time high. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in plumbing and pipefitting are expected to grow significantly in the coming years. In Texas, the average plumber earns over $57,000 annually, with opportunities for advancement through licensure and continued training.

Skilled trades workers are in demand due to an aging workforce and increased development across the state. This new program will help meet that demand while offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and practical skills in a high-wage, high-skill career field.

Texarkana College’s Plumbing Technology Program provides comprehensive training in:

• Pipe installation and repair
• Drainage, waste, and vent systems
• Water supply systems
• Plumbing codes and regulations
• Blueprint reading and system design
• Workplace safety and OSHA standards

Students will complete coursework through a blend of hands-on lab instruction and online learning, allowing for flexible scheduling that accommodates working adults and recent high school graduates.

The program structure is built for accessibility. With online lectures and in-person lab sessions, students can maintain part-time or full-time jobs while completing their training. This model supports faster entry into the workforce without sacrificing the quality of instruction or technical proficiency.

Graduates will be prepared for entry-level plumbing positions and can pursue apprenticeship programs that lead to state licensure and long-term career advancement.
