TC Cares for You is Texarkana College’s customized, local version of the Institute for Evidence-Based Change’s Caring Campus program. TC Cares for You was carefully designed by staff members representing all areas of campus. Our purpose is to help students feel more engaged, cared for and that they belong, and to create a campus-wide culture of caring through small but intentional behaviors.

Behavioral Commitments

Encourage everyone, staff, faculty, and students to make eye contact, smile, and give a friendly greeting to anyone within ten feet. If students seem to need assistance, take the initiative to approach them. Be willing to answer questions or make warm referrals to the appropriate departments.

Staff are encouraged to call ahead or walk students to the office they need to get to. Follow up to ensure the student arrived and received the help they needed. Be ready to provide campus maps.

Learn about other departments through staff engagement events, lunch and learns, coffee connections, departmental highlights in campus-wide reports and videos. Cross-departmental awareness among faculty and staff cultivates belonging, clarifies roles, and improves the accuracy of resources for students.

During the first week of classes, set up information tables and meet and greet students across campus as they arrive. Welcome students to the college. Attend all events during the term. Help new students find their way around and introduce them to support services.

Visible name tags make it clear and easy for students to know who to approach when they have questions and enhance approachability.

Whether it is a moment of encouragement, outstanding service, or a genuine act of care, we want to hear their stories. One staff member and one student Champion will be selected monthly. Care Champions will receive a collectible Care Champion pin to proudly display on their name badge or lanyard. All nominees will remain in the database for future consideration.
