Adult Education Career Navigator
Provides services for students including testing, intake, orientation, resources, persistence, and transition to post-secondary and/or employment.
NOTE: THIS POSITION IS FUNDED IN PART OR FULLY BY THE ADULT EDUCATION GRANT
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university required.
- Case management experience preferred.
- Experience working with students preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of individual needs for educational attainment
- Strong consultation skills for conferring with teachers and students.
- Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions.
- Awareness and ability to access community resources.
- Excellent organizational, communication, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
Experience:
- Two years’ experience in human services work preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Conduct student orientation sessions for new students.
- Organize and conduct pre and post testing for new and existing students.
- Organize and conduct required intake process for new students.
- Establish positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Coordinate and/or provide supportive services to support academic persistence and success.
- Connect students to college admissions processes, including financial aid, academic advising, and academic and student support services through collaboration with recruiters and TRIO EOC program.
- Provide information on targeted career and educational pathways and assist students with career research and planning.
- Monitor student progress, attendance, and behavior and meet with students regarding academic progress.
- Foster student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and effective use of resources.
- Track students and gather feedback along career and education pathway for one-year post-exit from AEL program.
- Assemble and update Navigator program resources.
- Track and report student participation in group and individual sessions with Navigator for TEAMS.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law, and board policy.
- Comply with all districts, TWC, and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain an accurate knowledge base and comply with state, district, and TWC policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors, co-workers, students, and community.
- Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Attend regular career navigator meetings and division meetings.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Salary:
Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
