Administrative Assistant – Social Sciences and Prison Education Program
Provides administrative support for the combined Social Sciences and Prison Education Program department, including academic program support, workforce program coordination, student communication, recordkeeping, and compliance-related administrative functions.
Entry into correctional facilities where classes are offered is not required for this position.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or educational equivalent; Associate degree preferred
Work Experience
- Two years of clerical, office, or related work experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide administrative support for Social Sciences academic programs and Prison Education Program workforce initiatives.
- Schedule meetings, maintain calendars, and coordinate departmental activities and events.
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical filing systems in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Gather, compile, enter, and update data to prepare routine reports, correspondence, and departmental documents.
- Answer and direct telephone calls, greet visitors, respond to inquiries, and provide information or assistance to staff and the public in a professional and timely manner.
- Assist with communication and coordination between college personnel, students, correctional facility partners, and workforce-related contacts.
- Assist with budget-related activities such as preparing requisitions, tracking expenditure, processing invoices, collecting payments, and maintaining financial records.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail, including sorting, distributing, and preparing correspondence and packages for delivery.
- Operate standard office equipment including copiers, printers, fax machines, and multi-line telephone systems.
- Assist with program logistics, including meetings, training sessions, class schedules, materials, and departmental events.
- Ensure compliance with college policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain student, program, and departmental records in accordance with college procedures and applicable confidentiality requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information and maintains professionalism in all interactions
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional goals.
Salary:
Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
