Dean of Students

Hello, I’m Robert Jones, Dean of students here at Texarkana College and I want to welcome each and every one of you here to take the count of college for this next school year.

I would probably be able to go online and say that you’re going to have a great time during the school year 22-23 here in Texarkana College.

But you need to be aware of the fact that even though you don’t have a good time is not always a fun time. And throughout the semester you’re going to have problems. One thing here that we have to tell our students if you have a problem, don’t let it persist. You need to talk to somebody. You need to talk to your instructor or you need to talk to the business department.

But you need to talk to somebody most of the time. Students come to me at the end of the semester talking about a problem that they had in the first of the semester, that’s not how we want to do it. We want to have time to solve your problem. Give you a good answer so that you can be successful this semester.

And also you need to be aware of the fact that even though we’re going to have a good time here in Texarkana College, we do have rules and regulations for you to follow things like you got to get a parking sticker. Things like you don’t smoke or chew on campus, you need to be aware of all of these rules. You can’t holler at anybody. You can’t talk and scream at anyone. We want to treat everyone here at Texarkana College with respect, because if you give respect. The response is to give respect back to, but if you don’t do that and you break these rules, then you have to come and see me.

And I’m really a pretty good guy until you break the rules and so we really don’t want these type of things to happen. Another thing I want to each one of you to be aware of is that we have several clubs and organizations here on campus and really to get most out of your college experience, you need to be a part of something.

Data shows that students who are involved in organization and campus activities tend to be the most successful one here on campus and therefore we want you to be successful and for you to be successful, you need to participate in these things.

We have several clubs and organizations we’re going to try to get a real rigorous intermural program going on, but so there should be something that you should want to do, but also be aware of the fact. That there if there isn’t anything then basically come and talk to me. We may be able to get something new started, but these are things that you want to be aware of.

The main thing I want you to be aware of though is that I’m Robert Jones, Dean of students here at Texarkana College, and my job primarily is to help you be successful. So help me to help you. Thank you.
