Vocational Nursing Admissions Requirements

  1. Candidates are expected to have effective judgment, and basic communication, math, and learning skills, as well as the physical characteristics necessary to practice nursing.
  2. The Vocational Nursing program admits 2 classes a year. Applications are accepted from July 1st to September 1st for the January class, and from March 1st to May 1st for the August class.
  3. All steps for admission, including Hepatitis B vaccination series, must be completed before the applicant can be accepted into the VN program.
  4. Prerequisites include: Anatomy and Physiology I (Biol 2401), A&P I Lab (Biol 2101), Anatomy and Physiology II (Biol 2402), A&P II Lab (Biol 2102).
  5. Overall GPA and GPA for Prerequisite courses must be 2.5 or higher.

Selection Process Priorities

Priority I

  • Meet the general admission criteria.
  • A&P I and II with labs completed prior to application. Must have a grade of “C” or higher.
  • Complete an additional 7 credit hours of Associate Degree in Nursing prerequisites prior to application. Must meet minimum GPA requirement.
  • A resident of the geographical service area.*

Priority II

  • Meet the general admission criteria.
  • A&P I and II with labs completed prior to application. Must have a grade of “C” or higher and meet minimum GPA requirement.
  • A resident of the geographical service area.*

Priority III

  • Meet the general admission criteria.
  • Either A&P I or A&P II with lab completed with a grade of C or higher prior to application. Remaining A&P course completed before the first day of class.
  • A resident of the geographical service area.*

Priority IV

  • Meet the general admission criteria.
  • A&P courses with labs completed prior to the first day of class.
  • Not a resident of the geographical service area.*

 

Ranking within each priority will be decided based on highest number of credit hours completed in nursing courses and GPA if necessary.
