Join Phyllis Deese as she discusses campus safety.
Hello and welcome to Texarkana College.
We are so happy you’ve chosen TC. We think you’ve made the smart choice.
Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Phyllis Deese and I’m the Vice President of Administrative Services. I have a variety of responsibilities here at TC, including Human Resources, Compliance, and Safety. I also serve as the Title 9 Coordinator and Discrimination Officer for Texarkana College, and I’d like to talk more about that to you now.
Texarkana College has very specific policies on freedom from discrimination, harassment and retaliation, including sexual misconduct.
I want you all to know that I am the one you can contact if you have a situation on campus that you would like to report. There is a great deal of information available to you in the Student Handbook and on our website about this, specifically information on sexual misconduct, including definitions, how to report, and procedures for grievances and investigations, are all available to you.
On the TC website home page there is a link at the bottom of the page called sexual misconduct. You can also see information on the public safety page of our website about this and a number of other safety links.
On that note, another important link on the public safety page is how to be notified by text in the event of an emergency. We refer to these as Rave alerts. It is vital that you keep your phone contact information updated with TC.
Weather emergencies, safety emergencies and other general information text go out to all students and employees through Rave and we want to keep you informed. If you do change your phone number, please notify the Enrollment Services Office of the Change as soon as possible.
The last thing I’d like to talk with you about is campus safety with regard to COVID-19. The last year and a half has caused us to look at how we must conduct our daily lives in this safest possible manner.
Texarkana College has taken extensive steps to help ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff, including additional sanitation efforts, improved HVAC systems and campus protocols.
We’re frequently asked about wearing masks. Currently we encourage our staff and students to wear masks for their protection, particularly for those who are unvaccinated. We also encourage all to be vigilant with hand hygiene and to maintain social distancing when possible.
TC monitors each day the number of positive cases locally, regionally and nationally to be sure that the campus protocols we have in place are appropriate.
Note, that if the local positive case counts continue to increase we will likely move to strongly recommending masks wearing for everyone while the case count in the county remains high.
Masks will be made available for each classroom for any students who would like one. The health and safety of our students and staff are very important to us and we want to do all we can to protect everyone.
Texarkana College is a great place to be. We care about your success. We care about your safety and we care about your future. Thank you for choosing us.
