New Information for Tax Year 2018
Beginning in tax year 2018, colleges and universities will no longer be able to report amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in Box 2 of form 1098-T. Instead, institutions will be required to report payments of qualified tuition and related expenses in Box 1.
Box 3 is checked on 2018 1098-T forms to show that the reporting method was changed from Box 2 (allowable charges) to Box 1 (allowable payments). Prior to tax year 2018, Texarkana College reported Box 2. Due to the change required by the IRS, Texarkana College has changed to report Box 1, allowable payments.
Texarkana College cannot advise you on how to claim tax benefits. We recommend that you seek the advice of a tax professional for tax-related information. It is the responsibility of each taxpayer to determine eligibility for educational tax benefits and how to calculate them.
The Tax Form 1098-T link is only available certain times during the year, generally in late January through mid-February.
