Tartuffe takes place in Orgon’s Paris home on a pivotal day in his life—a day on which he learns he’s made a grave error of judgement that could end in his complete ruin. Tartuffe, or The Imposter, or They Hypocrite, first performed in 1664, is a theatrical comedy by Moliere. The characters of Tartuffe, Elmire, and Orgon are considered among the greatest classical theatre roles.
