Faculty – Visual Arts
To instruct students in the disciplines of Visual Arts in accordance with College policies and procedures.
- Master’s degree (Doctorate degree preferred) in Visual Arts or a Master’s degree in related disciplines (Art Appreciation, Art History, or Mixed Media Art) with 18 graduate hours in ARTS.
- Demonstrates effective teaching techniques adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
- Understands the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community colleges.
- Demonstrates subject matter related to relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline.
- Displays effective planning, organizing, communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
- Effectively assists student learning.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
- Demonstrates ability to work with diverse student population, families, and children.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information.
- Demonstrates proficiency using computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level.
- Teaches active cooperative and learning strategies.
- Collects, records, and analyzes data for decision-making.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Demonstrates ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.
- Must be knowledgeable, capable of using current technology in the classroom, and able to teach effectively at a community college level.
- Preferred experience in teaching community college level Art.
- Successful teaching experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Instructs students in the discipline of Visual Arts.
- Provides learning activities that stimulate student involvement and encourages critical thinking.
- Demonstrates creativity and innovation in the field, and service in the profession and/or the community.
- Plans and organizes lesson plans, research and reference materials, syllabi, and other learning aids.
- Meets deadlines and adheres to policies and procedures for paperwork, records, and documentation.
- Maintains office hours to assist students.
- Participates in graduation, general assembly, and other official College functions.
- Teaches courses including developmental and accelerated learning formats.
- Responsible for program development, curriculum development, advising/mentoring students and participating in student retention activities.
- Serves on college-wide and departmental committees & participates in college activities.
- Participates in faculty development opportunities.
- Primarily responsible for teaching a minimum of fifteen (15) credit/contact hours and required Art Studio lab hours per semester.
- Maintains an established schedule, including evening, weekend, and/or summer assignments, including possible multiple campus locations that may vary by semester.
- Recruits, advises, and evaluates students.
Serves as faculty advisor for students.
Commensurate within the Texarkana College pay scale for position.
