Faculty – Drug & Alcohol Abuse Counseling

Primary responsibilities will include instructing students in the area of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling in accordance with College policies and procedures.  In addition to teaching, responsibilities include recruiting, supervising student Practicums, maintaining contacts with local substance abuse facilities, and maintaining data/records related to the program.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree, 18 graduate hours in Psychology preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Qualifications to teach psychology courses preferred.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching techniques adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
  • Understands the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community colleges.
  • Demonstrates subject matter related to relevant topics and issues in the teaching discipline.
  • Displays effective planning, organizing, communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills.
  • Effectively assists student learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with diverse student population, families, and children.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level.
  • Teaches active cooperative and learning strategies.
  • Collects, records, and analyzes data for decision-making.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment.

Experience:

  • Preference given to LCDC, MAC, or other addiction-specific credential.  Non-addiction credentialed applicants must show documented education and work experience specific to addictions. Must qualify or seek qualification under Texas DSHS rules as a (QCC) Qualified Credentialed Counselor by being either a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or licensed Psychologist.
Responsibilities:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Serve as faculty advisor for students.
  • Assume the responsibilities of lead teacher for the college’s Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling Program.
  • In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting, supervising student Practicums, maintaining contacts with local substance abuse facilities including a DAAC Advisory Board, and maintaining data/records related to the program, especially as related to employment of graduates of the program.
  • There may be additional teaching duties in the psychology field as well.
  • Candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm and dedication to the idea of a DAAC program will be strongly considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • As required by job responsibilities.
Salary:
Competitive, depending on qualifications and experience.
