MOC 2071B - Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with Transact-SQL

        
Course Objective:  
 This course provides hands on training in using the SQL language to create, manipulate, and extract data from a relational database. The course focuses on Microsoft's SQL Server product, however, since the SQL language has been standardized most of the information presented would apply to any SQL accessible database. Students will:
  • Learn basic concepts of relational databases
  • Use of SQL statements to retrieve data and group and summarize data
  • Joining tables and using subqueries
  • Update and delete data in tables based on a specific criteria
  • Use of programming objects such as views, stored procedures, triggers
    • Prerequisite: Windows XP Operating Systems or equivalent knowledge.

    Course Operation:
         The class will consist of lectures and hands-on lab time using Microsoft SQL Server. Tests will be given to measure student progress. These tests will consist of both a written section and a hands on section.

    Grading:
    Your grade will be based on the following scores: Grading Scale:
    1. Test average
    2. Quiz grades
    3. Homework grade
    4. Instructor evaluation
    		    A = 90 to 100
       B = 80 to 89.99
       C = 70 to 79.99
       D = 60 to 69.99
       F = Below 60

    Lab:
         Time will occasionally be given in class to work on assignments. Unless you have completed all assigned work and have approval of the instructor, you are expected to attend in-class Lab sessions. An additional 3 hours per week outside class time may be needed to complete the assignments.
       
    FROM THE TC CATALOG: Any student who officially withdraws from a course two weeks before the start of final examinations and before the student has been dropped from the course by the instructor will receive a "W". Students are expected to attend, regularly, all classes in the course for which they are registered. Responsibility for work missed because of illness, school business, or other circumstances is placed on the student.
    Using college resources to view or transport pornography and any form of harassment is prohibited and will result in the student being dropped from class with a grade of "F" and disciplinary action taken by the Dean of Students.

    MAXIMUM ALLOWED ABSENCES BEFORE INSTRUCTOR DROP:
    (3 times tardy counts as one absence)
    • NIGHT CLASSES : 2
    • TUES/THUR CLASSES : 4
    • MON/FRI CLASSES : 4
    • MON WED FRI CLASSES : 6
    • SUMMER DAY CLASSES : 2

    CHEATING: Cheating will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating will be dropped from the class with a grade of "F" by the instructor and disciplinary action may be taken by the Dean of Students.
