Course Description:

            A study of the diagnosis and troubleshooting of user hardware and software related problems. Topics include the techniques required to resolve a service call, troubleshooting and configuring software issues, and resolving Microsoft Office XP and Outlook email application problems through hands-on activities. Prerequisites: ITSC 2339.

 

Learning Outcomes:

            Establish rapport with users in problem-solving situations, analyze user problems and lead them through solutions, maintain problem logs, and formulate problem-solving methodologies. The student will also gain necessary background and experience to prepare for the Microsoft exam 70-272, which is the first of two required test in the MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician) certification.

 

Course Operation:

            The class will consist of lectures, assignments, and hands-on lab activities. All exams will be given during scheduled class time. Any missed exam will result in an adjusted format exam with a ten percent penalty.

 

Grading Scale:

                        A         90 – 100

                        B          80 – 89

                        C         70 – 79

                        D         60 – 69

                        F          Below 60

 

Grades will consist of the following:

            Lab Activities                           25%

Assignments                             25%

            Exams                                      25%

            Final                                         25%

 

Lab:

            Hands-on lab will be done during the class period.

 

From the catalog:

            Any student who officially withdraws from a course on or before the last day to drop will receive a “W”. Students are expected to attend, regularly, all classes in the course for which they are registered. The instructor may drop the student for non-attendance, but is not required to do so. Responsibility for drops and for work missed because of illness, school business, or other circumstances is placed on the student. Maximum allowed absences before the instructor drop:

           

            Night classes              2

            TTH/MW                   4

            MWF                          6

            3 tardies = 1 absence

*Cheating:

 

            Cheating will not be tolerated. Scholastic dishonesty, involving but not limited to cheating on a test, plagiarism, collusion, or falsification of records will make the student liable for disciplinary action after being in investigated by the Dean of Students. Proven violations of this Nature will result in the student being dropped from the class with an “F”.

            This policy applies campus wide, including TC Testing Center, as well as off-campus classroom or lab sites. Students are furnished this information during Freshman Orientation with the TC Student Handbook.
