This course consists of lecture, lab (program assignments), and a small amount of homework (not to be confused with the program assignments).
¨ Textbook: QuickBASIC and QBASIC Using Modular Structure (second edition)
By Julia Case Bradley.
We will use chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 and parts of 10, 11, and 12.
¨ Other Requirements: You will need 2 floppy disks for this course…one for back-up.
We will take two kinds of tests, Testing Center Tests and Programming Tests.
¨ Testing Center Tests will consist of 25 questions (multiple choice, and True False) over chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4.
You may take each Testing Center test twice and the better grade will be used.
You must present two forms of identification: your STUDENT ID CARD, and a PICTURE ID (driver license, employment id, etc.).
You must know:

TESTING CENTER HOURS
Monday - Thursday 8:15am - 8:15pm (no tests started after 7:45 p.m.)
Friday 8:15am - 4:15pm (no tests started after 3:45 p.m.)
Not open on weekends and not open on college holidays
¨ Programming Tests will be given in class on a computer. There will be approximately 3 programming tests in class (open book) and one comprehensive final programming test (open book).
You are encouraged not to miss a programming test and especially the final. It is left up to the instructor’s discretion in case of missed tests. It could be that for programming tests, the final grade might be substituted, a make-up might be allowed or a zero could be used.
The grade for this course will be computed as follows:
Average of homework and lab programs 1/3
Average of Testing Center tests and programming tests 1/3
Final test 1/3
¨ Withdrawals: Any student who officially withdraws from a course by the assigned drop date and before the student has been dropped from the course by the instructor will receive a “W”. Students are expected to attend, regularly, all classes in the course for which they are enrolled. Responsibility for work missed because of illness, school business, or other circumstances is placed upon the student.

¨ Cheating: Cheating will not be tolerated. Any student caught cheating will be dropped from the class with a grade of “F” by the instructor and the Dean of Students may take disciplinary action.
¨ Food or Drinks: Students are not allowed to have food or drinks in the classroom or lab. The cost of damage to computer equipment can be significant due to a minor mishap.
¨ Cellular Phone or Pagers: A student may not bring a cellular phone or pager to class or Testing Center without prior written approval from the Dean of Students.
¨ Other Information: From the 2000-2001 Student Handbook: Performance of sexually explicit acts on campus (or public viewing and/or distribution of sexually oriented material) constitutes a breach of conduct.
The viewing of pornography is prohibited and will result in being dropped from class with the grade of “F”, and the Dean of Students will take disciplinary action. The use of student e-mail for obscene or pornographic purposes is prohibited. Any form of harassment will result in dismissal from class with the grade of “F”, and the Dean of Students will take disciplinary action.
