Three Texarkana College softball players were tagged for Region XIV awards recently, including Haley Nix being named the regional Player of the Year.

The Oklahoma University signee batted .509 for the Bulldogs, who finished fourth in the regional tournament, knocked in 90 RBI on 113 hits and smacked a school-record 16 home runs.

Misti Cosby, who along with Nix was an NJCAA Division I All-American last spring, batted .453 with 73 RBI and 11 home runs. Cosby was the Region XIV first team designated player, and Nix was also a first team infielder.

“We've had some good hitters at TC, but Haley has probably the purest and smoothest swing I've seen,” TC coach Leslie Messina said. “We had the best 3-4 combination (Nix-Cosby) in the region. Both were returning All-Americans, and that's with Misti missing half of last year due to illness.”

Cosby has signed to continue her academic and softball careers with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the fall.

Brittany White, who batted .316 and stole 39 bases, was a second team outfielder and has also become the third Texarkana player to sign a letter of intent when she linked her deal with Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla.

“Brittany was one of the fastest Bulldogs on both offense and defense,” Messina said. “As well as batting leadoff for us, she tracked down a lot of balls that would've gone for extra-base hits but were outs because of her play. These girls will be sorely missed, and it will be very tough to replace them.”
