Texarkana College tops five opponents Saturday

FORT WORTH, Texas—Texarkana College won all five of its softball games Saturday to claim the championship of the winners bracket at the Cowtown Classic.
The Bulldogs (11-5) blanked Howard College, 8-0, in the finals, posted last-at-bat wins over Midland, 4-3, and North Central Texas College, 3-2, and topped Cowley County (Kan.) College, 5-1, and Odessa, 8-4.
In the championship game, winning pitcher Kayla Woods and Dora Buchanan combined on a two-hitter and Amanda Busby was 3 for 3 with a double and four RBI. Jolene Addington and Regan Dunlap chipped in a double and single each, Sarah DeMoss had a triple and Jessica Lynn a RBI-double.
Against Midland, TC battled back from a 3-0 first-inning deficit to clinch the win, and Dunlap delivered a no-out single through the middle for the game-winner. Dunlap was 2 for 3, and DeMoss had three RBI on a double and single. Claire Collom, in relief of Shea Parker, picked up the win after blanking Midland over the final five frames.
Woods hurled a five-hitter, struck out six and walked none, and Casey Merritt was 2 for 2 with a run batted in in the win over NCTC.
Collom tossed a five-hitter and fanned four against Cowley County, and Merritt and Jessica Lynn had two RBI each, Lynn’s on a double. DeMoss had a RBI-triple, and Busby and Dunlap were both 2 for 2 with a run scored.
Lynsae McNabb had two hits, two RBI and scored twice, and DeMoss had a two-run double and scored twice in the opening-round win over Odessa. Parker surrendered just four hits, including a grand-slam home run in the third inning, when Texarkana held an 8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs host Carl Albert State College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday and Eastern Oklahoma State College at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
