Seven Texarkana College softball players received individual recognition for their efforts during the past season by the Region XIV coaches and staffs.

Three Bulldogs were named to the first-team all-region and four more selected to the second team, giving this year’s squad one more than in 2004, when TC had six selections and won the regional crown.

Sophomore Leina Braxton was nearly a unanimous choice as the Player of the Year and also chosen to the first team as an infielder.

Texarkana’s all-freshmen battery of Claire Collom and Jennifer Lynn were also first-teamers, Collom as a pitcher and Lynn as a catcher.

”I thought the vote was true to form,“ TC coach Leslie Messina said. ”The seven that were selected were definitely seven that we relied on every game, and all of our first-teamers were good selections.“

Sophomores Faith Meriwether and Laura Villa were named to the second-team all-region as an infielder and utility-designated player, respectively, while freshmen Jolene Addington and Jessica Lynn were second-team outfielders.

”These young women certainly competed with the best in the region, and I’m glad to see that their individual efforts were noticed,“ Messina said.
