Former Texas High standouts David Allday and John Stilson have been named to the 2009 National Junior College Athletic Association’s All-American baseball team.
Allday, a sophomore, led Texarkana College in batting with a .438 average, hit 10 home runs and drove in 57 runs. The Kansas State University signee, who was named Player of the Year in the Region XIV’s East Zone, was named to the second team on the All-American squad.
Stilson, a freshman, was the ace of the Bulldogs pitching staff. He tied the school record for victories, finishing 12-1, including a pair of wins in the Region XIV tournament. His earned run average was 2.44. He also played shortstop for TC, and was named honorable mention All-America, and is expected to be selected in Major League Baseball’s free agent draft that starts today.
Several other Bulldogs, who have completed their Texarkana College career, will continue their careers at four-year universities.
Infielder Trey Buck, who hit .304 with six home runs and 34 RBI, will join Allday at Kansas State.
Joaquin Hinojosa, who played only one year at TC, has signed with Texas A&M after batting .403 with 11 home runs and 60 RBI. He was also the Bulldogs’ closer, finishing with a 6-2 record, three saves and a 3.04 ERA.
Zach Fowler, a former Liberty-Eylau standout, had a 7-4 pitching record at TC last season. The left-hander signed early with Texas Tech University.
Former Arkansas High star Lance Marvel split his time between catching and playing the outfield with Texarkana College. He batted .368 with seven home runs and 37 runs batted in.
Thomas Watson and Gip Hendrix will be teammates at Henderson State University. Watson, a third baseman, hit .328 with seven home runs and 36 RBI, while Hendrix, an outfielder/designated hitter, batted .331 with six homers and 30 RBI.
