"Why do you teach, Mr. Storey?"

Because it's the best job anyone could ever hope to have!

Think about it,........ you get paid to learn about the fascinating living world all around us, and then you lead discussions on all kind of interesting topics about living things! Just about everyone is curious about living things, and I have the privilege of helping students discover all of this "neat stuff."

Texarkana College is a first class institution that truly cares about it's students and in my opinion there is not a finer group of professionals anywhere! The faculty is the strength of any educational institution and we are blessed with a fantastic group that work very hard with students in order to prepare them for what is to come in their lives... out in the real world.  It truly is an honor to work with such a dedicated group of people. I can sum it up this way....How many people can say that they really, LOVE going to work every day! ( See Storey's Teaching Philosophy)

as the First Distinguished Faculty Award winner on Arbor Day 1996.
A sawtooth oak, Quercus acutissima L. was planted by TC in his honor.

The Extra Boring "Stuff"

I was born and raised in Bryan / College Station, Texas, the son of a Professor of Horticulture and Plant Physiology at Texas A&M University at College Station.
(That's right , I am a 100% tried and true AGGIE!... I bleed maroon....Gig'em, saw varsity's horns off etc.)  I graduated from TAMU with a B.S. in Horticulture in 1983.

I continued my education by completing a M.S. in Biology / Agricultural Plant Science at Texas A&M University-Commerce along the way.

I managed a family owned regional fruit growing & shipping company, STOREY ORCHARDS (peaches, plums & blueberries) from 1984-1995.In revitalizing the company, we planted 40 acres of irrigated peaches and built a packing / storage & sales building and later our home utilizing a rather unique building technique for this part of the world called rammed earth.

The farm was started by my grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Moody T. Storey in 1932. Due to several successive spring freeze/frost and hail events in the 1990's we were forced to reduce the farming operations to a small-part time enterprise in 1996.

Planting, Training, Pruning, Spraying, Warming, Picking, Refigerating, Marketing, and Shipping those peaches.... ahhhhhhhhh :-)

We wish all of our family and friends around the world

My Hobbies

Music

I have all kind of outside interests away from TC. I am a semi-professional musician and play keyboards and sing with a classic country/rock dance band called DURANGO. We are a five piece band that plays a wide variety of music in area nightclubs, county fairs, private parties and honky tonks.

Amateur Radio

Amateur Radio or "HAM" radio has been a part of my life since I was 15 years old.  Ham radio operators do a wide variety of activities from public service in assisting by providing emergency communications in case of a disaster to talking to other operators literally around the world using voice, CW (morse code), various digital modes and even satellites in space! (It is a lot of FUN!)  Amateur Radio operators are required to pass several written examinations as well as demonstrate proficiency in international morse code. I was originally licensed as WD5ETT.
You can learn more about what Amateur Radio is all about by visiting the American Radio Relay League (ARRL)
