a rapidly changing world in which the population continues to grow and
the demands for food and fiber are ever present. Most of the population
of the United States live in urban and suburban settings which means
that
efficient systems of production, processing, marketing, and
distribution
of food and fiber product must be maintained. Trained agricultural
professionals
will continue to be needed to fill technical and managerial positions
in
the numerous agricultural fields.
The multifaceted agricultural industry employs a large percentage of the labor force in the United States in more than 500 career areas. Career opportunities for the agricultural graduate are found both in private industry and with government agencies. These include financial institutions, public utilities, cooperatives, insurance companies, real estate firms, food processing industries, feed manufacturing firms, chemical, seed and machinery companies. Positions are found in sales, management, marketing, product development and quality control. Employment opportunities with governmental agencies include positions with conservation agencies, parks and wildlife agencies, forestry service, agricultural extension services and agricultural teaching at both the high school and college level. Meeting the challenges and opportunities in agriculture requires careful preparation and study. At Texarkana College, counselors and faculty advisers will assist you in selecting the courses which will be required in your field of study and which can be readily transferred to a senior university for completion of the bachelor's degree. The agricultural science student at TC will study basic courses in agricultural science and economics as well as supportive courses in mathematics, communications, social and natural sciences. |
