       I.                    NAME      

Texas A & M UniversityTexarkana / Texarkana College Science Club for Educators.

 

II.                 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

 

The purpose of this club is to increase the expertise and confidence of teachers of science through the sharing of ideas and information. Activities shall include, but not be limited to, the following: seminars, conferences, workshops, field trips, and social activities.

 

III.               MEMBERSHIP

 

Membership will be open to any person willing to promote and support the interest and purpose of the club. Persons who are not students or faculty at TAMU-T/TC may be members of the Science Club. Associate members will apply for membership in the same manner as students or faculty. Funding for the activities of associate members must not come from state money. All associate members must pay a $25.00 deposit when signing up for trips. This deposit will be forfeited if the associate member does not give a least a one week notice of cancellation, except in case of an emergency, which can be approved by the officers of the club.

Membership is from September to August and is open year round. Benefits of membership include, but are not limited to: voting privileges, serving as an officer, club shirt, and priority when signing up for trips of limited enrollment.

 

IV.              DUES

 

Dues shall be proposed by the officers and voted upon by the members at the first meeting of the fall semester. Dues are currently $15.00. This amount will be collected with club application. Officers of the club will be exempt from payment of dues. Membership dues must be collected yearly for a person to remain an active member. A person may join at any time, dues are the same for all members regardless of when they join or mount of anticipated participation.

 

 

V.                 MEETINGS

 

Regular meetings will be held once a month, at a time to be announced. A quorum shall consist of five members. Special meetings may be called by the executive board (the officers) or by two-thirds of the club voting membership.

 

VI.              ELECTIONS

 

                                                               i.      At the April club meeting, the President will issue a call of nominations for officers for the following offices: President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations/Historian.

                                                             ii.      All nominees for officers must be members of the Science Club at the time of election. Term of office will be from September 1 to August 31.

                                                            iii.      The president shall call for nominations for officers from the floor at the April meeting. All nominees must have given consent to serve.

                                                           iv.      Voting will be held at the May meeting. The president shall be responsible for preparing ballots and conducting the election meeting.

                                                             v.      Only member of the Science club present at the May meeting will be allowed to vote. Absentee voting and proxy voting will not be allowed. Voting will be by secret ballot. Votes needed to be elected: A majority of voting members present.

                                                           vi.      Votes shall be tabulated by the president, one other executive officer (not a nominee for office), and the faculty advisor. Results of election shall be posted.

                                                          vii.      New officers will assume their duties on the 1st of September.

                                                        viii.      Outgoing officers will relinquish their offices on the 31st of August.

 

 

VII.            CLUB OFFICERS

                  A.        EXECUTIVE OFFICERS

The following positions shall constitute the executive officers of this club. All executive officers must be members of the Science Club at the time of their election.

 

1.         PRESIDENT
The president shall preside over all regular and executive meetings, enforce the provisions of the bylaws, be an ex-officio member of all specific and standing committees, and shall appoint committees as necessary, conduct elections, and shall not vote except in the case of a tie. The president must be a TAMU-T student.

 

2.                  1st VICE PRESIDENT

The first vice-president shall assist the president in performance of duties, assume office of president whenever the office is vacant or the president is absent.

 

3.                  2nd VICE PRESIDENT

The second vice president shall assist the president and 1st vice president in performance of duties.

 

4.                  SECRETARY

The secretary shall record the minutes at each meeting, read the minutes of the previous meeting at each meeting, and shall be the official record keeper and file all correspondence.

 

5.                  TREASURER

The treasurer shall collect all dues, keep an accurate account of all transactions and shall make a financial report at all regular meetings.

 

6.                  PUBLIC RELATIONS/HISTORIAN 

The public relations officer shall be responsible for preparing and posting announcements of the meetings, shall send out announcements of monthly meetings to faculty and staff, and keep the display case current and informative, and maintain the club scrapbook.

 

B.                 VACANCIES

It shall be the duty of the executive officers to elect a replacement for an unexpired term except in the case of a vacancy in the office of President, which shall be filled by the 1st Vice president for the unexpired term. If new officers for the upcoming year have been elected, they will fill the vacancy of the office to which they were elected.

 

 

VIII.         REPLACEMENT OF OFFICERS

 

1.      An officer may be removed from office for failure to perform duties and/or failure to attend two consecutive meetings without acceptable notice and/or excuse. The club sponsor has the authority to deem an excuse or notice acceptable. It shall be the duty of the executive officers to eelect a replacement for the unexpired term, except in the case of the president, which shall be filled by the 1st Vice president for the unexpired term.

2.      All outgoing officers shall immediately turn over all papers, money, books, records, and any other club related property to their successors or to the club sponsor by the last day of their term of office. Failure to do so will result in the billing of said officer(s) for replacement of missing item(s).

3.      The failure of the treasurer to return the checkbook by the end of the term of office may result in legal action.

 

IX.              AMENDMENTS

 

Any amendments must be approved by two-thirds of the voting membership attending the specified meeting.
